A magazine has asked me for an article on the history of the 400 gt interim. I have begun my research by talking to friends from the old Lamborghini who were working at the time and from the official documents of that time that I've checked Lamborghiniregister appears to contain errors.
This is the correct official documented list for 400 GT:

    LIST 400GT lamborghiniregister confirmed:
    2: 01030 Monza and 0322 Zagato
    17: 0409, 0415, 0418, 0433, 0445 (Appears to be 505 as well with the same scocca number 18928), 0454, 0460, 0481, 0484, 0469, 0490, 0517, 0526, 0538, 0568,0574, 01069

    total 19

    400 missing from lamborghiniregistry 4:
    1) chassis 0265 engine 0334
    2) chassis 0427 engine 0421
    3) chassis 0499 engine 0487
    4) chassis 0535 engine 0508
    total 23

Lamborghiniregister mistakenly lists these vehicles which do not result from official ducments 400 GT:

    0259 is a 350 gt
    0661 and 0664 are 400gt 2+2
0505 appears to be 0445 with the same scocca number.

These are the original 400 gt! Does anybody know the history of 0265, 0427, 0499 and 0535?

What's your definition of "400GT"? A 2 seater that left the factory with a 4-liter engine? One with a Lamborghini differential? Do you base it on body shell? A car which says "400GT" on the build sheet, or perhaps on the frame? Some combination of these?

Looking forward to seeing your article!

About the list you have in hands and show us...

Ok, Mr Wolfing, I am going to chime in with my opinion.

First of all, we have to be talking about “as delivered” with all these cars, or it doesn’t make much sense. Ie: The factory made a number of modifications “after the fact” as did a number of owners.

So, I’m going to go down your list and simply give you my opinion (based on my notes) as to which of these cars were delivered with a 350 engine, and which were delivered with a 400 engine. And, of course, which were simply 400GT 2+2s (ie: “small-window” cars, like my own #655).

01030 Monza – as far as I know, delivered with a 400 motor, #463. (the current owner is a very nice chap :)
    0322 Zagato – motor 268, I don’t know anything about this car but I guess it’s a 350 … thus the name “3500 GTZ” – but I really don’t know. Here’s a brochure for its twin #310, which has a 350 motor:
    http://www.400gt.com/articles/Auction/3500_Interim.htm
    0409 – delivered with a 350 motor…oddly enough, engine #409.
    0415 – I believe delivered with a 400 motor, #418
    0418 – I believe delivered with a 350 engine, #373
    0433 – I believe delivered with a 350 engine, #415
0445 (Appears to be 505 as well with the same scocca number 18928) – I really don’t know anything about this car. I wish somebody would finally confirm the “built from parts” story behind #505. It's in Japan? I have no idea…but scocca number is correct, I believe.
0454 – Ah…ex-Brian Gladish. I’ve talked to Brian on several occasions (or more!) and I believe this was delivered with a 400 motor, #445. (Often mistaken for Chassis 445 with engine 454! Or…whatever) When Brian restored the car he had 4-liter pistons made for it, and I believe this was "as delivered."
    0460 – Delivered with motor #457, I believe a 400 motor.
    0481 – Delivered with motor #511, I believe a 400 motor.
    0484 – Delivered with motor #448, I believe a 400 motor.
0469 – (why out of sequence?) Delivered with motor #442, I believe a 400 motor.
    0490 – Delivered with motor #466, I believe a 400 motor.
0517 – Definitely a 350 motor. ;^D JUST KIDDING! Slam-dunk 400 motor, #490. Tonino’s list identifies this as the first 400GT, btw. (The list sold at Tonino’s museum)
    0526 – Delivered with motor #514, I believe a 400 motor.
    0538 – Delivered with motor #615, I believe a 400 motor.
    0568 – Delivered with motor #618, I believe a 400 motor.
    0574 – Delivered with motor #527, I believe a 400 motor.
    01069 – Delivered with motor #954, I believe a 400 motor.
    (total 19)

    400 missing from lamborghiniregistry 4:
    1) chassis 0265 engine 0334 – Delivered with what I believe is a 350 motor. HOWEVER -- keep in mind that this is a very special 350GT that was built for Ferruccio Lamborghini "hisself" and featured a highly-modified 350 motor, which was probably in reality a 400 motor. My guess is that he was testing the "big-window" car with a 4-liter engine, knowing that he was going to have to bump the 350 motor up to 4-liters for the 2+2 cars. So regardless of what 265 was delivered with, it was probably intercepted in the middle of construction at the factory and heavily modified. What a cool machine! :)
    2) chassis 0427 engine 0421 – This car just sold, and seems to have been delivered with a 400 motor. Everything I can see points to the fact that it was.
    3) chassis 0499 engine 0487 – I really don’t have much information on this car, but oddly enough, the owner just popped up on the VLG and it appears to be a slam-dunk 400GT, delivered with a 400 motor. So I’ll go with that.
    4) chassis 0535 engine 0508 – Appears to have been delivered with a 400 motor.

total 23 (maybe more like 19?? just my guess)

0259 is a 350 gt – I agree, “it was delivered as a 350GT” – what happened to it after that I have no idea, but I do know that Jacques is restoring it.
0661 and 0664 are 400gt 2+2 – no question about that, both are 400GT 2+2s. btw, my car is 655 so I’m sure they are almost exact copies of my 400GT 2+2.
0505 appears to be 0445 with the same scocca number. – According to Tonino’s list Chassis 445 was delivered with motor 505, so that could be where the confusion comes from. I have no idea. I don’t have much information for either 445 or 505.

I hope this is of some help. I've left you with a bit of a mess, but I'm sure you'll untangle my notes.

Again, keep in my this is just my opinion based on my notes and observations. No guarantees here! :)

    My best,

    Fred

Rm Auctions Scootsdale 2020 has a car listed that says it is a 1966 400 GT Interim. I don't see where C # 463 and M #439 is listed as an Interim in the registry???? Any thoughts?
